EU Stage V Marine Engine Development

Mitsubishi Turbocharger and Engine Europe and Koedood Marine Group have worked on an EU Stage V propulsion and auxiliary-engine solution based on Mitsubishi’s SR- and SA-series engines.

The proposed range covers approximately 470 to 1,960 kW and combines Mitsubishi marine engines with exhaust-aftertreatment technology.

Carbon-Free Fuel Engine Development

Mitsubishi has also worked with Koedood on a six-cylinder S6R-based marine engine designed to operate using carbon-free fuel technology.

Methane Oxidation Catalyst Testing

In May 2025, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery & Equipment announced demonstration testing of a methane oxidation catalyst system for marine LNG engines.

In April 2026, Mitsubishi Marine Machinery & Equipment and Mitsubishi Shipbuilding obtained Approval in Principle from ClassNK for the basic design of a methane oxidation catalyst system for LNG-fuelled marine engines.

Engine Efficiency at Partial Load

In June 2026, Mitsubishi Marine Machinery & Equipment and the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping launched a joint project to improve marine-engine efficiency at partial load.

Ammonia-Fuel Equipment

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding received an order for an ammonia fuel-supply system and ammonia gas-abatement equipment for an ammonia-powered marine engine, with delivery scheduled for 2025.

Expansion of International Dealer Support
